FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions people actually ask before installing StreamDek — what it is, what it is not, what it costs, and what it needs from you.

Can I use my Plex or Jellyfin library with StreamDek?

Yes. The latest StreamDek Android apps support Plex and Jellyfin. Open Media Servers in the Web App, select your StreamDek profile, then link Plex with a code or add your Jellyfin server address and sign in. Jellyfin Quick Connect is also available when your server supports it. Choose the libraries you want to see; your setup follows that profile when your apps sync. You need an existing server and your device must be able to reach it to browse and play.

Can I connect a Jellyfin server on my home network?

Yes. If your Jellyfin server is only reachable on your home network, add it from the StreamDek Android app while connected to that network. The Web App can connect only to a server it can reach. Watching away from home requires a server address that your playback device can access remotely.

What is StreamDek?

StreamDek is a streaming front end for Android phones, tablets and TV devices. It brings the addons, playlists, Debrid services and sync accounts you already use into a single interface, with one search, one watchlist and one Continue Watching row shared across every screen you sign in on.

Does StreamDek provide any content?

No. StreamDek hosts no media, indexes no library of its own and ships with an empty catalogue. Everything you see in the app comes from sources you connect yourself. What those sources offer, and whether you are entitled to use them, is between you and them.

Is StreamDek free?

Yes. The Android apps and the web Control Center are free to download and use, and there is no paid tier. Some services you might connect to StreamDek — a Debrid provider, for example — are paid products from other companies, but StreamDek itself does not charge you.

Which devices does StreamDek run on?

Android phones and tablets running Android 8.0 or later, and TV devices including Android TV, Google TV, NVIDIA Shield, Chromecast with Google TV and Amazon Fire TV. There is also a web Control Center that runs in any modern browser for setting things up and managing your account.

Why is StreamDek not on the Google Play Store?

StreamDek is distributed as an APK from its own release pages rather than through the Play Store, so you install it yourself. Android will ask you to confirm that once, which is the standard prompt shown for any app installed outside a store. The apps check for their own updates and tell you when a newer build is available.

Do I need Real-Debrid, Trakt or any other account?

No, all of them are optional. StreamDek works without any third-party account beyond a free StreamDek account. Connecting a Debrid service improves how reliably streams resolve, and connecting Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or PunchPlay keeps your watch history and lists in step with those services, but nothing is required.

Which Debrid services are supported?

Real-Debrid, AllDebrid, Premiumize, TorBox, Debrid-Link and Deepbrid. You add your own API key for whichever you already subscribe to, and StreamDek uses it to check cache state and resolve links at play time.

How do I get StreamDek onto my TV?

Enable installs from unknown sources on the TV, use a downloader app to fetch the StreamDek TV build, and install it. Then, instead of typing an email address and password with the remote, the TV shows a short pairing code that you enter from your phone or from the web Control Center.

Can everyone in the house have their own profile?

Yes. Each profile has its own watchlist, history, home-row layout and playback preferences, and can be protected with a PIN. Switching profile on a shared TV does not disturb anyone else’s Continue Watching.

Can my watch history show up in a search engine?

No. The Control Center and everything behind sign-in are excluded from crawling in robots.txt and additionally carry a noindex directive, so watchlists, viewing history, Continue Watching and profile pages are not indexed and cannot appear in search results.

Is StreamDek affiliated with Netflix, Trakt, Real-Debrid or TMDB?

No. StreamDek is an independent project. Those services are named only to describe what StreamDek can connect to or display, and all trade marks belong to their respective owners. No endorsement or affiliation is implied in either direction.

Where do I start?

Install the app on your phone, create a free account, then open the web Control Center in a browser to connect your addons and services — pasting API keys with a keyboard is far quicker than with a remote. Add the TV app afterwards and pair it with a code.
